This is one aspect overlooked or ignored by most conventional Western medical practitioners. We accumulate toxic waste in our colon over years of eating. Some of this toxic waste matter may dry up and accumulate in diverticula or pile up in certain curvatures of our colon. This toxic waste matter serves colonic cesspools for harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites and toxins. Doesn't it make sense to remove or cleanse these waste materials and toxins on a regular basis to eliminate the breeding ground for these unwanted "guests" in our colon? These unwanted "guests" are the major root cause of IBS.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is characterized by recurrent or chronic disturbances of bowel function and lower abdominal pain in patients who have no evidence of biochemical or structural gastrointestinal abnormality.
Abdominal pain associated with predominant constipation, diarrhea or alternating
constipation and diarrhea. Patients often experience rumbling in the bowels,
a sense of incomplete evacuation, urgency (having to rush to have a bowel movement), straining during a bowel movement, passing mucous and abdominal fullness, bloating or swelling.
The prevalence of IBS is about 10% in most industrialized countries. IBS affects women two to three times more often than men. Its prevalence is similar across ethnic group in the United States. It is estimated only 10% to 25% of patients with IBS seek medical care. Monetary cost has been estimated to be $25 billion a year through direct costs of healthcare use and indirect cost from absenteeism from work. Patients with IBS are absent from work three times as much as individuals without it. IBS greatly affects physical, emotional and social functioning of affected individuals.

- Medications such as Antidiarrheal Opioids (Lomotil or Imodium) to relieve symptoms. These drugs slow down the bowel movement but they are temporary symptomatic treatments. They are also addictive leading to potential abuse. Side effects include dizziness, drowsiness and palpitation.
