Before I entered School of Pharmacy In United States of America, I naïvely believed there was a drug that offers cure for each disease that plagues human beings. I wanted to know everything about drugs. However, the longer I practiced pharmacy, the more I came to realize that the single most important thing I learned from the profession of pharmacy is the limitations of drugs.
As a result of this awakening after practicing Pharmacy for over 2 decades, I have refocused my professional interest in nutrition and preventive medicine. I have re-discovered the wisdom of Chinese Medicine and the wisdom of dietary practices passed down from my ancestors for centuries. Some of these practices were often ridiculed by people when I first came to the United States in 1970. Now Chinese medicinal and dietary practices are being accepted and researched by scientists to understand why and how they work.
Shin-huang-ti, physician who compiled the Fundamentals of Chinese medicine said: It is diet, which maintains true health and becomes the best drug.
It was found printed on Egyptian papyrus an earlier warning about the adverse effects of excess energy intake: Most what we eat is superfluous. Hence we only live off a quarter of all we swallow; doctors live off the other three quarters.

Over the last few decades, we have observed the proliferation of preprocessed foods with artificial colors, sweeteners and preservatives and transfats (a.k.a hydrogenated oils). Junk foods and highly processed canned, frozen or fast foods containing such harmful ingredients continue to be readily available and fed to our children and young adults in schools all over the country. One out of three American children is overweight and fifteen percent of all U.S. children are obese. There are over 300,000 deaths each year in the United States that are associated with obesity. Despite the skyrocketing childhood obesity rates, many high-calories, low-nutrition foods are still being sold in our schools.
Out of concern and hope for our youth and our current domestic health crisis obesity related diseases, I have created a non-profit organization, called NUTRIfoundation on Oct. 21, 2005. NUTRIfoundation calls on schools nationwide to transform the nutritional choices of their meal programs and school fundraisers and include mandatory, improved nutrition education in their curriculum.
It is urgent and critical that we transform the mindset of the school administrators, to prioritize the health of children over profits. Our future generation of children and young adults in high schools are our soon-to-be corporate co-workers, politicians, doctors, and leaders, etc. It is essential that their fundamental nutritional and physical fitness needs are met and sustained for life because this will impact everyone's quality of life in terms of optimal performance, behavior, good health, lower national health care costs, and a "trickle-down effect" to our economy. Our cause is for the benefit of everyone."
